Rebecca Messerle22-24 April 2016 - Holiday Travel Park, VA Beach
The Hosts for this Campout were: Randy & Linda Burdette, Dale & Judy Ross and Larry & Carol Welford. The Campout was held at the Holiday Travel Park in Virginia Beach. Reservations were due by March 1st.
We
reserved two types of sites. The cost is a 15% discount across the board for
everyone.
Super
Sites: These sites are
larger by being longer and wider than most other sites. They feature a
concrete parking pad 60'x12' or larger with a concrete patio measuring 15'x25'.
The sites have copper fire pits in which to build a campfire, deluxe picnic
tables (rubber coated with backs on the benches), attractive landscaping, a lit
services pedestal if you arrive late at night and cable television (bring a
cable to connect from the pedestal to your unit). There are asphalt
aprons on both ends so that most sites offer at least 100' of solid surface for
you to park on. We reserved 10 of these sites at a cost of $52.70 +tax per night. The reserved sites are sites
#835-839 and 824-828.
Regular Sites: We also reserved 5 regular sites, Sites
#30-34. These are full hook-up 50 amp pull-throughs between Maryland
Trail and Beechtree Street. The cost is $35.70 per night +tax. If we need
to add regular sites, that should be possible – there were a number of vacant
slots on that row.
It is a short walk between the regular sites and the super
sites. Randy and I plan to take our golf cart so if anyone has problems
making the trek, I will gladly offer Randy’s Chauffeur Services.
To
make reservations, please call 866-849-8860 or 757-425-0249 and ask for
June. Be sure to tell her that you are with the Old Dominion Cardinals.
Reservations must be made by March 1 or she will release the sites for other
campers. You can make reservations after that time, but there is no guarantee
that you will be placed with the others in the club or that you will get the
discount rate. She has also extended the discount rate to Thursday and Sunday
nights if anyone wants to arrive early or stay later.
We
reserved the "Café" for our meals. This is not the upstairs at the
Tally-Ho Club. This is a room on the ground floor beside the main pool (which
won't be open) in the large club house across the street from the check-in
office.
The
campground is hosting a Barbecue Cook-off that weekend, but it's not a huge
event like the Sertoma one or the Bike Fest the following weekend. I forgot to
ask about the cost of the tickets, but June said that we could enter the
barbecue contest if we wanted and apparently all the attendees get to judge the
barbecue.

at the Old Dominion Cardinal annual Christmas party held at the Welford home.
Welcome to all in attendance. A special welcome to our guest, Dale Messerle. Thank you to the Welford’s for opening up
their home to us and to Sandy Freed as Welford’s able bodied assistant.
A big thank you went to Larry Welford for delivering our toys to Toys for Tots.
The Secretary’s report and the Treasurer’s report were emailed by Rebecca, before the party. Reports were approved as emailed.

We tabled the discussion on the motorcycle ride at the
Spring Samboree until we know where the Samboree will be held.
Campout fees will remain at $10.00 per person.
2016 camping schedule: A list was circulated to sign up for hosting duties at the monthly campouts. Carol made some suggestions:
Keep at least 12- 14 sites, maybe 15 if we can without
paying a deposit. State parks are fine,
but if hosts get site specific, it would be helpful to know where the site is
so others can park close.
In February, those still in the area, will meet for the ODC midwinter Luncheon. Location and date to be determined later.
A thank you was given to Sharon Lawrence for her year of service as Vice President.

Thank you to all who brought donations for Toys for Tots.
Kay read “The night
before Christmas” ODC style for those who had not heard it before.
A motion was made to Adjourn. Motion passed.
Merry Christmas to all and safe travels until we meet again.
